Pakistan, Happy Independence Day!

This year, on August 14th, Pakistan will celebrate its Independence Day. This day is significant in Pakistani history and for the Pakistani people because achieving freedom is fraught with emotion. Pakistan was founded by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who was given the title of Quaid-e-Azam. Pakistan was a part of the subcontinent that was a British colony for nearly 90 years (1857-1947).

Thousands of lives were lost between the beginning of the movement for a separate country and its ultimate success. Following their separation, India and Pakistan experienced the largest mass migration in human history. Numerous casualties occurred on both sides.
